Hi all,

I was trying, unsuccessfully, to use the SAPUI5 kit on the AWS Hana instance. There are various sources of information how to install SAPUI5 (why is it not installed by default in the first place?), all of which, at least in my case, did not lead to a successful installation:

• Most sources refer to the section 10.1 of the Developer Guide. The title of this section is "10.1 Data Access with JavaScript in SAP HANA XS", so this is certainly not the right one. The title of the section 11.1.1 is "Installing SAPUI5 Application Development Tools", so this looks more like the one.
• This section then says "SAPUI5 application development tools are downloaded from the SAP Software Download Center on SAP Service Marketplace (http://service.sap.com/swdc) and search for SAPUI5 TOOLS IDE PLUGIN 1.00." This assumes that each Hana One user has an access to the SAP Service Marketplace, which is obviously not the case.
• I happen to have access, however when searching for this string, all I get are three packages with some pdf documents, no code. This is probably due to the fact that my company has not bought a Hana licence, we have only another SAP product. So this path stops here.
• There is a video http://www.saphana.com/docs/DOC-3034  which handles the SAPUI5 installation. Strangely, instead of telling where to download the package, it says that the author is using an internal SAP download URL which does not work from the outside, customers are referred to the online help and to the Developer Guide which allegedly contains the download URL. It does not.
• Other blogs here say that the AWS Hana should use Import/Delivery Unit to download the package from the server. This seemed quite promising, the package is there and I could start the import. Unfortunately, after the import, Hana Studio shows no sign of having the package installed. In Help/About/Installation Details the SAPUI5 package is nowhere to be seen and when trying to create a UI5 project in New/Other, there are no SAPUI5 entries here, so well visible in the exercise videos. Another bummer.

So, please, would it be possible to present some uniform documentation that tells the user how to really install SAPUI5?

As I have started my openSAP course, I have tried to install beside the SAP HANA client, also the SAP HANA Studio on my only Win OS available - that is an XP in German. Hello Everyone

Am trying to develop an application in HANA as taught in OPEN.SAP course.

Question 1 :

1. In the system repository i have created my own workspace and done the check out on my package.

2. After that, i have created a new project in the Project Explorer and added few files ( .xsapp , .xsaccess, .xsjs ). Now when i right-click on my project and go to TEAM i should find commit and activate options, But am not able to find it.

Question 2 :

From my browser, when i give saphana hostname:8000 , i was expecting the SAP Hana XS Home page But i could not find it.

Could anyone please help me.

To whom it may concern,

       I am trying to get my developer up and running on the cloudshare but I’m having issues.  Once I login and accept the terms, it takes me to a page which says: “Thank you for your interest in the HANA on CloudShare Trial trial!”.  The only option it leaves is to go to the home page which I do.   Then, it starts all over by asking me the solution I’m interested in and then the provider.  I put in HANA and Cloudshare Trial, respectively.   At this point,  it takes me back to the personal data page..where I begin the process all over again.  I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.  Does anyone out there have any advice?

I'm trying to experiment with creating hierarchies and I have the option to create a hierarchy in both Attribute views and Calculation views however in all of my analytic views the option to CREATE hierarchy is dimmed out (ie: not available or clickable).  Any idea why?  I am on REV 55.

Hi folks,

I'm on my latest kick which is experimenting with hierarchies and in doing so I've made some realizations.  For starters, I noticed that for each column in my analytic view there already seems to be an auto generated hierarchy in the _SYS_BIC schema, one for each and every column.  Conversely for attribute views there seems to be a single hierarchy generated regardless of how many columns exist in the view.  The single column seems to be based upon the first KEY listed in the OUTPUT of the view.  (Although this seems to be overwritten if I create my own custom hierarchy)  Now I have a few questions based upon these discoveries;

1) Each auto generated hierarchy seems to contain a distinct list of values for that column.  Is this why activating a particularly large view could take a long time, because each of the hierarchies are being populated? 

2) Are these auto generated hierarchies somehow used for decompression when loading data from disk into memory?

3) When I experiment with unloading (FROM MEMORY) the source table for a particular column, I notice the distinct list in the hierarchy remains intact.  Does this mean this distinct list is actually stored on physical disk or is it in memory?  (With this one i'm just trying to understand how/when this distinct list is updated)

These questions are to satisfy my curiosity, not to solve an immediate business need.  Thanks for any comments you may have on this.

     I have met this issue.

     I have a table t with 3 columns, id1,id2, num.

     I am doing this

     select a.id2 m, b.id2 n, sum(a.num), sum(b.num)

     from t a, t b

     where a.id1=b.id1

     group by a.id2, b.id2;

     the problem is if I don't do the two sums. the speed is quite well.

     if I add one of the sums, the speed is still reasonable, but if I add the two sums together, the speed goes down two much, about double time needed.

     Anyone can help on this? I think the table is a column one, the calculation of the two sums should be done in parallel, so there should not be so much different in speed.

     by the way, I used the 'request_flags'='ANALYZE_MODEL' in the testing. so the real sql is

     select a.id2 m, b.id2 n, sum(a.num), sum(b.num)

     from t a, t b

The free HANA developer version for AWS states: "A free perpetual license to build, test and demo applications that use SAP HANA" - however elsewhere in this HANA space there are recent blogs describing the process to re-apply for a licence every 90 days! Is this correct. Surely "perpetual" doesn't mean I have to re-apply for a licence every 90 days..? This really means you're only offering a 90 day trial HANA system.

Which one is it?

Just wondering why SAP have modified eclipse to create the HANA Studio tool instead of producing plug-ins for the standard eclipse... Kind of like what they have done with NWDS where we always end up behind in eclipse versions. Will there be a move away from this so that we have the benefits of a standard eclipse juno install and plug-ins for each of HANA studio, HANA Cloud, ABAP, etc (noting that Cloud and ABAP already do it this way).

I successfully installed the HANA Client (for 32 bit Windows 7 OS). But I couldn't find the regi.exe file for configuring the HANA Studio.

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Wondering if I can install HANA Client for 64 bit. Because in one of the old blogs I read regi.exe is not available for 32bit HANA Client.

I'm pretty new to HANA and i'm facing an issue with the .xsjs file. I'm getting two red diamonds as icon decorators on the project folder and .xsjs file. The commit option is also disabled in the context menu for the .xsjs file. Has anybody encountered this problem?

I am creating OData service for analytic view with an input parameter "customerid". I am writing the .xsodata file as follows:-

but when I try to execute it, It's giving me the following error:-

I am using a set of pretty complex CRM calculation views where one top level calcuation views may contain joins with 15-18 lower level calcuation views, with the lower level calculation views each representing one table.  When I execute a query on the top level calculation view, it takes my HANA instance over 1 minute to resond to the request, even though there is only 1 resulting row.

The HANA Studio tells me the request "successfully executed in 1:06.993 minutes  (server processing time: not supported by server)  Fetched 1 row(s) in 0
ms 11 µs.  This seems to tell me that getting the rwo of data was very fast (11 micro-seconds) but that HANA spent well over a minute trying to dynamically load up the calculation view, and that process is what caused the slow response time.

Can anyone offer some insights here?  If the dynamic loading/allocation of memory for the calcuation view is the issue, is there a way to tell HANA to "pre-load" it into memory rather than dynamically load it for each query?
