Use $filter or parameters to select entities in XSOData

Hi colleagues

We are creating a new XSOData service and need to decide if we should use the $filter functionality of the OData specification or use parameters in the underlying view to filter on a lower layer of the data access. (Due to other aspects of the OData service we need parameters anyway.)

Are there any performance considerations?

Are there any guidelines in this respect?
